What is Eyelid Lift (Blepharoplasty)? Blepharoplasty, also known as Eyelid Lift, is a very popular surgery because of its ability to dramatically enhance facial aesthetics. As you age, your eyelids stretch, and the muscles supporting them weaken. As a result, excess fat may gather above and below your eyelids, causing sagging eyebrows, droopy upper lids and bags under your eyes. Sometimes droopy eyelids can also cause vision problems as they can obstruct your field of view. Blepharoplasty can reduce or eliminate these problems and make your eyes appear younger and more alert. It can also be combined with other facial and skin rejuvenation procedures to achieve an overall younger-looking effect. Reasons for getting Eyelid Surgery: You might want to consider blepharoplasty if you have any of the following symptoms: - Baggy or droopy upper eyelids. - Excess skin of the upper eyelids that interferes with your peripheral vision. - Excess skin on the lower eyelids. - Bags under your eyes. - Irritation from excess folds of eyelid skin rubbing together. - Forehead discomfort from overused muscles that strain to lift sagging skin in the eyelid area

Before surgery: You’ll need to clarify with your doctor whether you’ll be undergoing local or general anaesthesia for your eyelid surgery. You may require general anaesthesia if the blepharoplasty is more complicated or if you plan to undergo other cosmetic procedures at the same time. You should stock up on ice packs before leaving for the surgery as you will need to use them to reduce swelling during recovery. If you are a smoker, your surgeon may advise you to quit smoking for at least several weeks prior to a procedure, because smoking is associated with an increased risk of surgical complications and slower healing.
